Spirit of the Peace Museums – Preserving Northern Alberta’s Story

Themed & Custom Map | Grande Prairie & Peace Country

The Peace Country is more than wide skies and fertile fields — it’s a region alive with history, preserved in dozens of small-town and community museums. Together, they form the Spirit of the Peace Museums Network, a partnership dedicated to keeping northern Alberta’s stories alive.

This map connects you to those museums, from Grande Prairie to Fairview, High Prairie to Spirit River. Each one offers a different perspective on pioneer life, Indigenous culture, military history, farming traditions, and the communities that grew from them.

🏛️ Museums You Can’t Miss

  • Veterans Memorial Gardens & Interpretive Centre (Grande Prairie) – honouring veterans through monuments and storytelling.

  • Heritage Discovery Centre (Grande Prairie) – interactive exhibits on dinosaurs, early settlers, and the boreal forest.

  • Fairview Pioneer Museum – a deep dive into Peace Country pioneer life.

  • Spirit River Museum – celebrating farming, schools, and rural resilience.

  • Valleyview & District Museum – Indigenous history and settlement heritage side by side.

  • High Prairie Museum – local culture preserved in unique collections.

Dozens more community museums across the region bring the Spirit of the Peace to life.

🚗 Why Visit the Spirit of the Peace Museums?
Because these aren’t just buildings — they’re community-built archives of northern Alberta’s past. Each visit helps support the volunteers and organizations keeping the region’s stories alive for future generations.
